FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) organized their first pilot project using FORTA-FI in State Route 3036. One section of the road was paved with 150 tons of FORTA-FI reinforced asphalt, while another section of the road was paved using a conventional 1.5” PG64-22 mix.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

After 10 years, this high-volume roadway looks great with minimal cracking. The fiber side of the road held up noticeably better than the control side,

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

The objective was to compare the performance of a FORTA-FI reinforced mix with a traditional mix, without fiber. The road was milled 1-1/2” and a 1-1/2” wearing course was placed, one side reinforced with a FORTA-FI mix and one side with traditional asphalt, without fiber.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

A test section using fibers was incorporated into a stretch of 1-81 in Lackawanna County. Two separate two-inch sections of pavement were milled off and replaced with PG76- 22, one section with FORTA-FI and one without fiber.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

A small test section of FORTAfied asphalt was placed in one lane of a severely rutted road. The other lane was paved without fiber, used as a control section, and then both lanes were covered with tar and chip.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

The use of FORTA-FI synthetic fiber reinforcement saved the project a significant amount of money (estimated $140,000 total savings in AC material alone) while also providing an extension of pavement life.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

A side by side trial comparing FORTA-FI to a traditional asphalt mixture showed clear results.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

FORTA-FI helped to extend the life of a busy state highway by reducing reflective and alligator cracking.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

A side by side trial in Pine Township, PA comparing FORTA-FI reinforced asphalt to a traditional mix design.

Love’s Travel Stop, a newly constructed rest stop, used FORTA-FI to reinforce a large parking lot that could perform well under heavy truck traffic.

- PFC

Wee Burn Country Club, located in Darien, Connecticut, used FORTA-FI in combination with a porous asphalt pavement in their new 1-acre parking lot.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA
