Scorching summertime temperatures and extremely cold winters, asphalt pavements are a constant battle to resist thermal cracking. When the County Transportation Department selected 13 miles of Riverview Road for rehabilitation, engineers needed to include additional reinforcement in the 2” asphalt overlay to address the reflection of existing cracks. FORTA-FI® was selected as a more cost-effective reinforcement option and the County received a new road surface that will be highly resistant to both refl ective cracking and future thermal movements. Due to the large project size, the FORTA® Voyager was chosen to automate the fiber addition process – making it safer and easier to add fi ber to the mix.
