Project Description
Road I/27, which serves as the boundary of the Sumava National Park, is located in a mountainous and heavily wooded area that experiences harsh and frequent weather changes. Due to the heavy snowfall, it is subject to freeze-thaw issues as well as plow damage to the wearing course. In an effort to reduce thermal cracking, approximately 7,400 tons of FORTA-FI reinforced asphalt was used during the overhaul of the intermediary and wearing courses on a 5 km stretch of road with an elevation differential of 178 m between the cities of Javorná and Železná Ruda. The Czech National Road Administration aims to increase durability as well as extend the life of the road.
