Babcock Road – Brevard County, FL

Brevard County, FL - January 2020

Project Description

Brevard County, FL used Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) to reconstruct Babcock Road, ½ mile north of the county line and ending 40 feet before Micco Road. FORTA-FI fiber was used to reinforce the asphalt layers placed on top of this (FDR), to prevent potential reflective cracking from developing due to FDR cracking. The contractor placed a 2” thick structural mix, SP 12.5 reinforced with FORTA-FI, and then a 1 ½” thick asphalt mix of FC 12.5, also reinforced with FORTA-FI. This 3.3-mile-long project was 24’ wide and used 9,230 lb of fiber reinforced asphalt. FORTA-FI’s ability to increase the life of the road and reduce rutting and cracking, encouraged the county to reinforce this high-volume road with fiber.
