Project Description
The roadway into the Air Force facility at Cape Canaveral in Brevard County Florida was repaired and reinforced with FORTA-FI asphalt fiber. The road that was repaired is Highway 401, and the job consisted of side road entries, passing lanes, and exit lanes. This project was 3 miles long, used 13,000 lb of FORTA-FI, and was laid at a thickness of 2”. This stretch of road had been experiencing alligator cracking, so the owners chose FORTA-FI to reduce cracking and extend the life of the highway. The paving crew had experience with using FORTA-FI and used the FORTA Voyager to feed the fiber into the asphalt mix. There were no issues at the plant or at the worksite. All involved with this project were happy with the outcome and looking to do more projects with FORTA in the future.
