Description
The City of Casa Grande repaved a portion of their city streets, both arterial and secondary, during the summer of 2013. The 2” mill and overlay was originally specified with a stress-absorbing membrane interlayer (SAMI) for reflective crack mitigation. Project specifiers suggested that the city use FORTA-FI® fiber reinforcement within the asphalt in place of the SAMI, which would delay reflective cracking as well as improve fatigue life and rutting characteristics. The substitution allowed Casa Grande to pocket $100,000 in savings on the project and simplified the construction process, leading the city to use FORTA-FI® in the remaining full reconstruction portion of the project as well.
Key Points
