Project Description
In 2018 alone, 15 different streets in the City of Erie were constructed with Fiber Reinforced Asphalt (FRA), replacing their typically used Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) method. The decision to reinforce Erie’s streets with FORTA-FI was due to the many road problems like rutting, cracking, draining issues, and porous sandy bases. Fiber reinforced roadways will lead to better results in the future. The City of Erie was looking for longer road life, so both the base layer and the top wearing layer were fiber reinforced in a majority of the projects. In addition, Fortafied® asphalt will require less maintenance, resulting in cost savings down the road. One of our preferred asphalt producers, Russell Standard, was the vendor for all Erie projects and will continue to aid us in the future with our many upcoming projects.
