Description
The City of St. Charles needed to carry out a full depth reclamation to replace the existing pavement along Headland Drive. The principle objectives were to reduce costs and the impact on local citizens. After evaluating the available technologies, they chose to use FORTA-FI®. The original design called for 4” of aggregate base, 7” of asphalt base and a 2” wearing course. Use of FORTA-FI® within the asphaltic layers allowed them to reduce the thickness of the asphalt base by 3” but still achieve the original design life requirements. The excavation depth was also reduced by the same amount providing additional savings.
