Project Description
The New York Department of Transportation (NYDOT) used FORTA-FI to reinforce I-81, both north and south lanes, between mile markers 74.2 and 81.7. This mill and fill project included 40,000 lb of FORTA-FI in the wearing course. The high tensile strength fiber reinforcement replaced the use of polymers. The FORTA Voyager fiber feeder was used at the asphalt plant to add the fiber to the asphalt mix with no problems. With this being a high volume road, NYDOT chose to reinforce the interstate with FORTA-FI to and reduce cracking and increase the life of the roadway.
