Description
Thurston County specified a single lift 3” HMA section reinforced with FORTA-FI®. In the past, conventional asphalt typically resulted in the development of fatigue cracking due to high traffic volumes along this stretch of road. The fibers add strength and durability to the pavement and typically increase the design life by at least 50%. It will also decrease the need for crack sealing and other maintenance work required in the future. The HMA mix design consisted of PG64-22 binder with 20% RAP.
Key Points
