Description
Penn State kicked off their study of FORTA-FI® reinforced asphalt with four pilot projects this year. Two roadways at the Stone Valley Recreation Area (Red Rose and Lodge Lane), a maintenance parking lot (OPP PSU maintenance garage), and a busy bus stop in the heart of their State College campus (Curtis/Allen streets) were selected. FORTA-FI® fibers were used in the wearing courses which ranged from 2” to 3” and in both 9.5mm and 19.0 mm HMA. The purpose of this study is to determine the long-term cost savings when FORTA-FI® is added to the original design at full thickness thereby extending the life of the pavement.
