Poland Township – Mahoning County, OH

Mahoning County, OH - August 2019

Project Description

FORTA-FI was used to reinforce the asphalt on 1.3 miles of local and highway roads in Poland Township, OH.  Originally a competitor was listed in the specs with no alternatives allowed, but the territory sales rep reached out to Mahoning County engineers and was able to prove that FORTA-FI is a superior product allowing for a greater return on their investment. Necessary repairs were made prior to paving on this mill and fill project.  This roadway required 60,000 lb of FORTA-FI laid at a thickness of 1”.  The FORTA Voyager fiber feeder was used at the batch plant to add the fiber to the asphalt mix.

This was the first time the automated VOYAGER fiber feeder was used at a batch plant to add FORTA-FI to the asphalt mix at an asphalt plant. The owners have seen positive results of life extension from past fiber use and were looking to increase the life of the asphalt while also reducing rutting and cracking.
