State Route 13

Mansfield, OH - July-August 2011

Project Description

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) used FORTA-FI® to reinforce portions of the State Route 13 repaving project south of Mansfield, Ohio. This high traffic roadway connects to Interstate 71 with busy entrance and exit ramps, as well as a business access intersection at Hanley Road. ODOT selected FORTA-FI® for use in various section of this asphalt material trial project. A traditional Superpave asphalt mix design was used for the entire project, with FORTA-FI® added to the specified sections of the road.

Update

After 5 years, the State Route 13 was surveyed and had no major visible cracks or rutting. Notably, one section of the shoulder, containing no fiber, shows a visible crack that extends across the entire section and stops right at the roadway reinforced with FORTA-FI®.

Key Points

  • Reduced rutting
  • Extension of pavement life
  • Reduce fatigue cracking
