State Route 2020 – Tyburn Road

Philadephia, PA - 2013

Project Description

This Tyburn Road project was full depth replacement of existing composite pavement which carries ADT of 18,799 with 5-27% truck traffic. The base course used consisted of PG 64-22, 25mm, 6” depth, HMA, 30 million ESAL SUPERPAVE mix, with PG76-22, 19mm, 3” depth HMA intermediate course, 30 million ESAL SUPERPAVE mix. The wearing course, placed in the summer of 2014, utilizes a PG76- 22, 2” Depth, 9.5mm, SRL E, 30+ ESAL SUPERPAVE mix. This section of road services a landfill and multimodal facility with considerable truck traffic.

After 10 years, this high-volume roadway looks great with minimal cracking. Over the years very little crack seal was used throughout. The fiber side of the road held up noticeably better than the
control side, especially in control sections consisting of large potholes.
