State Route 3036

Lancaster County, PA - 2011

Project Description

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) organized their first pilot project using FORTA-FI® in State Route 3036. One section of the road was paved with 150 tons of FORTA-FI® reinforced asphalt, while another section of the road was paved using a conventional 1.5” PG64-22 mix. The two road sections were analyzed for differences in reflective cracking and raveling.

Update

In July 2015, a 4 year performance study was conducted to objectively compare the two sections. Using ASTM D6433, the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) data was compiled. The table above reflects these findings. Despite only achieving approximately 90% density in both of the sections, the FORTA-FI® section drastically outperformed the control section.

Key Points

  • Reduce Fatigue Cracking
  • Extension of Pavement Life
  • Easily Added to Asphalt Mix
