State Route 32 Exit Ramp – Scott County, KY

Scott County, KY - October 2018

Project Description

The Kentucky Department of Transportation (KYDOT) chose to use FORTA-FI in a control vs fiber project on State Route 32 in Scott County, KY. For this project, a heavily traveled exit ramp near
mile marker 136, KYDOT used 105 tons of FORTA-FI reinforced asphalt in the eastbound lane from Love’s truck stop, west off I-75, over the freeway to northbound I-75. KYDOT laid between 50-100 feet of fiber reinforced asphalt 1 inch thick in the wearing course of this exit ramp. Due to the fact that 80% of this exit ramp’s traffic is heavily loaded semi-trucks, KYDOT was looking for a
way to increase the durability of the pavement. In addition, they want to reduce the rutting and cracking that occurs because of the high-volume traffic. FORTA-FI will aid KYDOT by increasing the life of this ramp for years to come.

Key Points:

  • Reduce Cracking
  • Reduce Rutting
  • Increase Durability
