Project Description
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TNDOT) chose to use FORTA-FI in a control vs fiber project on Highway 75, from I26 exit ramp to Taco Bell, in Washington County, TN. In this 4-lane road, that runs up to 6 lanes in some areas, TNDOT used 1100 tons of FORTA-FI reinforced asphalt in the far-right lane at a 1 ¼ – 1 ½ in thickness. For this project, TNDOT milled the entire highway and used the FORTA Voyager Fiber Feeder to incorporate the fiber into the asphalt mix for the lanes that were being restored. In the control sections where they did not use fiber reinforced asphalt, they used polymer modified asphalt. Since this is such a heavily traveled roadway, TNDOT wanted a more durable road to reduce rutting and cracking from the high-volume traffic. A longer road life is expected with the use of FORTA-FI reinforced asphalt pavement.
