Valencia Road – Tucson, AZ

Tucson, AZ - July 2019

Project Description

FORTA-FI was used to reinforce the asphalt at the intersection of Valencia and Kolb Road in Tucson, AZ. The total project was approximately 76,000 tons and used 30,800 lb of fiber. The asphalt thickness varied from 4.5” to 6.5” in depth in two different lifts, and the total length of the project was 3.05 mi. In addition to FORTA-FI being used in all of the wearing course for rutting and cracking resistance and to increase the design life, the fiber was also used in some areas of the asphalt base course where the contractor was not able to get required compaction on their cement-treated aggregate base layer. FORTA-FI was critical in increasing the structural strength of these areas. Using FORTA-FI in this new construction will create a more durable pavement for this high traffic road.
