Description
In 2005, Welshpool & Kewdale Roads, a high-traffic area prone to excessive wear, was in need of resurfacing. These roads used by both heavy commercial and residential vehicles are located near Kewdale Freight Terminal. New to the region, FORTA-FI reinforcement fibers were utilized in the HMA mill-and-fill to reduce rutting and cracking at the request of the city council.
Update
Visual inspections are completed after 6-7 service years, with core samples taken after 8-10 years to check the strength of the roadway. After 15 years the road surface remains free from rutting and cracking and is proving to be a fantastic example of how reinforcement fibers can increase the life cycle of asphalt pavement under severe service conditions. Council members are pleased with the STRONGER LASTING® capabilities offered by using FORTA-FI.
