Blythe Construction, one of the Carolina’s leaders in production of high-quality hot and warm mix asphalt, chose FORTA-FI to reinforce their parking lot in Matthews, NC. Due to this parking lots’ severe rutting where the trucks exit the scales and receive their load tickets, substantial repairs were needed. As a result, this section was milled 10” deep and replaced with 5” FORTA-FI reinforced intermediate and surface courses. In addition to using Performance Grade asphalt, this surface course was combined with a modified acrylic latex. Furthermore, multiple 3” mill and fill areas utilized FORTAfied® surface reinforcement courses, including the stockpile locations.
Owners were concerned standard asphalt would not withstand the stress of slow-moving, fully loaded trucks. For this reason FORTA-FI was chosen over traditional placements due to its ability to extend pavement life while withstanding severe stress.
Blythe Construction has benefited from dramatically decreased rutting in their weigh scale area. Subsequently, four years of heavy truck traffic has only reinforced their confidence in choosing FORTA-FI asphalt fibers.
