FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

An existing roundabout and access roads had extensive fatigue cracking due to heavy warehouse truck traffic. FORTA-FI® was used for a 2” inlay to extend design life and reduce fatigue cracking.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

The City of Greeley is looking for innovative ways to make their asphalt pavements more durable, so they chose FORTA-FI® to reinforce their 22nd Street overlay.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

A four mile stretch of SR 220 was broken into three sections. The southbound lane received a micro surfacing treatment and the northbound lane was divided into two - two mile sections. Each two mile section received a 1” thin lay using PG76-22 with one of the sections incorporating FORTA-FI®.

FORTA-FI® - PFC

The National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) just outside of Auburn, Alabama, is a world leader in asphalt research. NCAT is most commonly known for their renowned test track that utilizes accelerated pavement testing (APT).

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

The city of Morgantown, WV incorporated a trial section containing FORTA-FI® in both lanes on Dorsey Avenue. The project also contains a control section with no fiber in order to accurately compare the success of the overlay with fiber.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

Cracking and rutting from large agricultural equipment traffic plagued this road in the Netherlands. The road was overlaid with 1,200 tons of FORTA-FI® reinforced asphalt in order to address these issues.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

FORTA-FI® was used in a pilot project for a road in Giethoorn, Netherlands. The 1,330 meter roadway experiences traffic from heavy agricultural truck traffic including tractors.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

The use of FORTA-FI® will allow for reduced cracking and rut- ting leading to an extension of pavement life.

FORTA-FI® - SMA

Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) “accelerated pavement testing” program was launched at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) using their “heavy vehicle stimulator”.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

PennDOT’s District 11-0 decided to use FORTA-FI® in State Route 837 after being previously displeased with the roadway’s constant need for maintenance patching - costing them time and money.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

Extreme winters combined with excessive freeze-thaw cycles play a big part in the breakdown of pavement in northwestern New York. Erie County, which encompasses Buffalo, was in search of a way to mitigate reflective cracking and extend their paving dollar.

Surface-EXT™ - Micro Surfacing

A test section of micro surfacing reinforced with FORTA’s glass fiber, Surface-EXT™, was placed over the asphalt parking lot of the Texas Station Hotel and Casino in Northern Las Vegas. Another micro surfaced section was placed in the same area but without the use of fiber.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

The New Jersey Department of Transportation did their pilot project using FORTA-FI synthetic fiber-reinforcement in October, 2012. SR 130 between Cranberry and East Windsor Townships was selected in part due to its high traffic volume.

FORTA-FI® - Dense Graded HMA

For this June 2013 project, about two miles of road was milled and resurfaced from Marietta Street to I-75/SR 401. The north section of the road contained a 12.5 mm Superpave with neat asphalt binder reinforced with FORTA-FI and the south section contained a 12.5 mm Superpave with SBS polymer-modified asphalt binder.

FORTA-FI® - OGFC

The Jackson Hole Airport is located at the base of the spectacular Teton Mountains and is within the Grand Teton National Park. FORTA-FI was used in a 1” permeable friction course (PFC) on the runway 1/19 rehabilitation project.
